Gene Triplication deduced from the Tertiary Structure of a Muscle Calcium Binding Protein

Abstract

GENE duplication was first observed cytologically in the bar gene of drosophila1. The idea, extended by Dixon2, has been used to explain the obvious repeats in amino-acid sequence in the immunoglobulins, in bacterial ferredoxins, in haptoglobin α-2 (summarized in ref. 3) and in neurophysin4.
