Normal Repression in a Deletion Mutant Lacking Almost the Entire Operator-Proximal Gene of the Tryptophan Operon of E. coli

Abstract

THE results of several studies suggest that the feedback-sensitive polypeptide specified by the operator-proximal gene of a biosynthetic operon is involved in repression1–6. To determine whether the product of the most operator-proximal gene of the tryptophan operon of E. coli is involved in regulation we have isolated a deletion mutant in which almost the entire gene is deleted, and have examined this mutant's regulatory properties.
