Leading experts from academia and industry will gather in Milan on 26 and 27 October for the conference “Future Trends in Translational Medicine”, organized by Nature Italy withHuman Technopole’s Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT).

The meeting will focus on the translational opportunities arising from the convergence of innovative therapies, data science and new imaging methods, and the challenges that innovator face when moving from bench to bedside. It is especially aimed at early-career scientists, offering them an opportunity to reflect on how to further enhance their scientific projects, and to discuss with representatives from academia, industry, finance, institutions, and civil society.

The talks will be organized in four sessions, each one devoted to a key area of current translational research: gene therapy and RNA, genomics and data science, AI for life sciences and drug discovery, organoids and personalised medicine.

The conference will begin on 26 October. After the opening remarks, a keynote by Alberto Mantovani of Istituto Clinico Humanitas will open the scientific program, followed by the sessions on RNA and gene therapy (chaired by Irene Bozzoni and with talks by Stefano Gustincich, Michael J. Mitchell and Nicola Brunetti-Pierri) and on data science and genomics (introduced by Nicole Soranzo, and featuring Keren Carss, Rasa Elementaite and Emanuele Di Angelantonio).

The second day will start with another keynote, this time from the Director of the Open Targets initiative David Hulcoop. The session on AI for Life Sciences will be introduced by Andrea Sottoriva and will include Riccardo Bellazzi, Marcello Allegretti and Bert Klebl. Organoids and organs-on-chips will be the focus of the fourth session, introduced by Giulio Pompilio and with talks by Alice Soragni, Christine Mummery and Joep Beumer.

A policy roundtable on “Barriers to translational medicine” will conclude the event, involving speakers from academia, industry and institutions.

The program for the event and the registration form are available on the Nature Conferences website. The deadline for registration is 10 October.
