Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is being used increasingly in the investigation and management of macular disorders. It is a non-invasive, easily repeatable, patient-friendly investigation. The benefits of OCT are such that it could be considered an essential investigative tool for all ophthalmology departments.

This book is divided into two sections. The first section covers the basics of OCT, the technique of OCT, selection protocols, and the normal OCT. The text is brief given the length of the book.

The second section covers OCT patterns in various macular diseases. The cases chosen and the emphasis given to them seems to reflect the author's personal collections rather than a comprehensive systematic approach. The OCT images are of varying quality, type, magnification, and poorly labelled. The colour photographs and fluorescein angiograms are also of variable quality. The page layouts make it difficult to appreciate each case at a single view.

I am not sure who this book is aimed at. I feel it will not meet the needs of the trainee, and specialists will use a more comprehensive text.
