The non-sticky material that won't pull back

The Fuji IX GP is mixed to a putty-like consistency, either by hand or by using GC's unique capsulated system. GC claims the non-sticky material will not pull back when placed using metal hand instruments and due to its non-slump characteristics, it will stay exactly where a dentist places it.

As the Fuji IX GP is a glass ionomer, GC claims it will adhere to any pins or posts present without the need for additional bonding agents. It exhibits high bond strengths to tooth structure and the water absorption of Fuji IX GP is extremely low, as is the shrinkage.

GC claims Fuji IX GP is a versatile material and may also be used in a variety of applications, including permanent and semi-permanent restorative work for children and the sealing of pits and fissures. It is an ideal geriatric restorative material particularly where root caries is present. For further information contact GC on 01908 218999 or e-mail gcuk@btinternet.com.

No need for X-rays

Henry Schein is pleased to announce the launch of the Dentsply Ray-Pex 4 Apex locator to their endodontic product range.

The Ray-Pex 4 is an apex locator that is the first microprocessor operated apex locator. This enables the endodontist to quickly and efficiently locate the apical constriction and foramen and thus minimise patient treatment times.

Henry Schein claims the Ray-Pex 4 reduces the need for x-rays, lowering patient exposure to radiation and producing a reliable and accurate result.

Septodont give you the Acroseal

Acroseal from Septodont is part of their endodontic product range. Acroseal is a sealing and root canal filling material that Septodont claims offers dentists a non-soluble, apical root canal filling option.

Septodont also claims Acroseal is a calcium hydroxide based cement, which contains no eugenol and is formed by mixing the two components: base paste and catalyst paste.

Septodont states that Acroseal is easy to use and is designed for the permanent filling of root canals by sealing gutta percha points. The non-soluble character reduces shrinkage, resulting in a better fill.

The Endox gets tough on bacteria

Introdent is pleased to announce the launch of the Endox machine. Introdent claims that the Endox sterilises the root canal system, by means of fulguration

Introdent says that research papers have shown that only 60% of conventionally treated teeth culture negative for bacteria. Studies using Endox, in European universities demonstrate that Endox eradicates 99.99% ±0.0001 of bacteria in the radicular system. Vapourising tissue in a crown down manner ensures that the toxic load on the host is minimised.

The Endox action, Introdent claims, means that for the first time bacteria in the periapical area can be destroyed. Endox is fast, simple and easy to use, with a built in apex locator that indicates when to fulgurate the canal.

The new ProRoot MTA from Dentsply

The ProRoot MTA from Dentsply has just been re-launched. ProRoot MTA is now available in white only, which means no more discolouration of the tooth.

The ProRoot MTA is a root repair material that Dentsply claims is resistant to marginal leakage, allows the normal healing response, sets in the presence of moisture and reduces bacterial migration.

Each packet of ProRoot MTA powder comes with a pre-measured unit dose of water for convenience in mixing. ProRoot MTA reaches a working consistency rapidly and is ready to be applied to the prepared site.

Dentsply also claims ProRoot MTA can be used in the repair of root perforations, apexification creating an apical plug, repair of root resorption, root end filling and pulp capping.

Dentsply has also launched a set of instruments, which can be used in conjunction with ProRoot MTA for accurate placement. Surgical manual carriers for ProRoot MTA are available now, at participating dealers only.

Kerr Hawe incorporate radial land relief

Kerr Hawe, the creators of the K3 file claim it is designed for the general practitioner and is engineered for efficiency. Kerr Hawe claim the K3 is designed to cut quickly and safely with unparalleled debris removal, enabling the dentist to maintain full control of the instrument whilst experiencing fewer fractures.

Rotary instruments in general are manufactured rather like a screw and create their own thread within the root canal. However, with its variable helical flute angle, K3 does not do this and allows the operator to have full apical control.

Kerr also says that unlike normal U-shaped files, the K3 incorporates 'Radial Land Relief' to reduce friction on the canal wall. The unique 'Positive Rake Angle' results in an efficient cutting performance as opposed to the scraping action of other rotary instruments.
