Polymer priced to please

KaVo have introduced a brand new range of handpieces constructed of high quality industrial polymer at a low value-engineered price level.

The KaVo Duratec concept is based on simple colour coding. Green instruments signify reduction gearing, and are ideal for endodontic, surgical and preventive treatment. Red means high speed, suitable for crown preparationse. Blue signifies one-to-one gearing for working in the anterior area or for excavating carious lesions.

The innovative handpieces are lighter than normal and therefore more comfortable to hold, with a smoother, more tactile grip. In common with all KaVo handpieces they can be repeatedly autoclaved and are accredited by the BDA in this respect.

They are not illuminated, have external spray cooling and are of industrial polymer rather than stainless steel. The benefit of this design is the cost. A KaVo Duratec contra-angle, speed reducing (2:1) handpiece with swing latch head is fully guaranteed for one year and costs £337.22 including VAT of £50.22.

Torque talk

Above: The SuperTorque LUX 650 from KaVo is designed with a fan-shaped spray and a 30% increase in torque (compared with the KaVo SuperTorque 640). Featuring an automatic pressure-reduction valve and ceramic ball-bearings, it ensures a long and vibration-free operational life. Third generation glass rod technology provides 25,000 Lux illumination of the operating site, the glass rod itself unaffected by repeated sterilisation. A patented non-return valve ensures that no contaminated fluids can be aspirated back into the turbine which is fully and repeatedly autoclavable.

Trés bien Bien Air

Bien Air offers a high quality range of handpieces manufactured in Switzerland. The high speed BORA S.36/S36L is the top of the range and carries a 12 month UK warranty. The optic Bora S.36L has dual glass optic rods which allow superb vision.

Contra-angle handpieces are also available for optic and non-optic micromotors and air motors; The 1:1 ratio and reduction handpieces with internal (IR) water spray have interchangeable head systems with or without light. Speed increasing contra-angles and straight handpieces, as well as a range for standard external (SR) water spray motors are also available.

Over recent years there has been a large increase in the use of electric micrometers and fibre-optics. Bien Air produces the TLC.90 System of complete kits for new and existing units and the new, more streamlined system — the TLC.VLM.2000.

Trycare

Contouring and finishing is made easier and safer with the Profin System from Trycare. The CA handpiece produces a 1.5mm reciprocating action using a range of safe-sided, colour-coded tips, allowing the operator to finish a surface without damage to adjacent surfaces. The diamond tips go from 150 microns, ideal for gross reduction, down to 15 microns for final finishing on composite restorations. Other tips can reach interproximal overhangs or flash. There are tungsten carbide wolfram tips for finishing margins of inlays, onlays and veneers without damaging the porcelain or enamel surfaces. Plastic 'V' shape tips loaded with prophy paste are very effective in the removal of interproximal staining and tartar.

Others are designed for stripping the enamel for orthodontic appliances and for root planing.

Diamond geezer!

Hi-Di Gold diamond burs are available in all the most popular bur patterns and their distinct gold plating makes them easily recognisable.

Burs are coated in natural diamonds giving more cutting facets than synthetic diamonds and the colour coded shank allows for easy identification of grit size.

Also in the range are Ash Hi-Di Diamond burs in RA and HP patterns which are quality guaranteed with each diamond thoroughly inspected under the microscope.

Ash finishing burs feature twelve plain cut blades for gross removal of excess material from restorations. The tungsten carbide burs can be used on composites, ionomers, ceramics and metal restorations. The steel finishing burs should only be used on gold or amalgam fillings.

Baker-Curzon burs have an abrasive tungsten carbide surface which leaves a 'tongue smooth' surface on cavity margins or composites, ionomers, ceramic or metal restorations.

Spend and save

The KaVo Hat Trick promotion is designed to save money, interest and tax. Forty percent tax is saved through the current 40% capital allowance when buying three handpieces for the price of two on KaVo's five year interest free deal.

The range of instruments includes the KaVo 645B LUX 2 contra angle turbine with glass rod light system. A triple pack costs £1,515.74 inc, saving £645, and works out at £20.21 per month over five years, interest free.

Many practitioners obtain brand new, top quality handpieces (without having to pay maintenance and service costs) through this unique handpiece rental scheme. The scheme involves dentists renting the handpieces of their choice for a period of five years. The monthly rental fee comprises the capital rental cost and a small element for maintenance and service. For example, when trading in any existing turbine, the monthly rental for a KaVo Lux 650B Supertorque turbine is £20.29 per month, including VAT.

KaVo guarantee that all maintenance and repairs, even accidental damage, will be completely covered. Handpieces will be repaired, sterilised and returned within 48-hours of receipt. If for any reason KaVo cannot meet that delivery promise, free loan handpieces will be provided automatically.

Locked-in safety

The Kavoklave 2100 autoclave has undergone a dramatic restyling and is specifically designed to sterilize turbines, airmotors and handpieces. A one-step operation starts the automatic sterilising cycle of 16 minutes at 121°C. A rack and cassette system holds the handpieces safely whilst the KaVoklave is in operation.

Every sterilisation cycle is tested by a control indicator strip in the sterilising chamber.

Safety features include an interlock system to prevent the lid being removed while the pressure remains in the vessel, an automatic 'over pressure' release system and a 'power off' protection system should there be insufficient water.
