Recombinant DNA: have recent experiments assessed all the risks?

Experiments to test the safety of cloning viral genomes in E. coli, published earlier this year, have allayed fears about the risks of recombinant DNA. But, argue Barbara Rosenberg and Lee Simon, the experiments actually indicated some worrying aspects of the behaviour of recombinarit DNA.
