Abstract
A METHOD has been developed1–3 for selecting mutants of the structural gene for the constitutive alcohol dehydrogenase of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. These mutations alter but do not destroy the function of the enzyme. We report here the amino acid substitutions in two of these mutants, and examine the probable effects of these substitutions on enzyme structure and function. This is possible since the amino acid sequence4, isozyme differences5 and possible subunit conformation6 of the protein are known.
