Abstract
MIXED leukocyte cultures (MLC) have been extensively used to assess histocompatibility in transplantation1–5. The MLC test6,7 is an in-vitro model for determining the early recognition phase of the homograft rejection, and a correlation between the blast transformation in the MLC and the outcome of cadaver kidney transplantation has been suggested1–5,8. However, the MLC test is limited in its use in cadaver kidney transplantation because of the extended period required for its completion. Therefore, a more rapid technique other than blast transformation in MLC is required to assess the potential success of kidney transplantation when cadaver donors must be used. We report here that acetylation of histones in MLC may be a time-saving technique to determine histocompatibility in cadaver kidney transplantation.
