Dual action of erbium on transmitter release at the frog neuromuscular synapse

Abstract

LANTHANUM-D1–3 and praseodymium4 produce very rapid and large increases in miniature endplate potentials (m.e.p.ps) but they also abolish the induction of transmitter release by nerve impulses—endplate potentials (e.p.ps). We show here that erbium (Er3,4) also a lanthanide has a similar dual action.
