Abstract
THE design of brass instruments has always been a largely heuristic procedure. Recently, however, a knowledge of the acoustic impedance of the instrument has been used to correct faulty intonation in a trumpet1. Here we demonstrate how such knowledge may be used to improve both the timbre and the responsiveness (or ‘feel’) of a bass trombone.
