Increased neural lobe content of neurophysins in rats treated with exogenous vasopressin

Abstract

IN a number of endocrine systems it has been established that negative feedback mechanisms are involved in the regulation of hormone synthesis and release. No such role has however, been established for vasopressin in the control of the hypothalamo-neurohypophysial neurosecretory system. The present experiments were carried out to determine the effects of administration of exogenous vasopressin on the stores of the neurohypophysial peptides oxytocin and vasopressin and the proteins (neurophysins) associated with them in the neurosecretory granules.
