Membrane structure changes in rod outer segments associated with rhodopsin bleaching

Abstract

Static and time resolved birefringence analysis used to quantitate a fast membrane structure change driven by the formation of metarhodopsin II in intact frog retina. This change can be accounted for by the disorientation of only one phospholipid molecule per rhodopsin bleached.
