Direct physical evidence for secondary structure in an isolated fragment of R17 bacteriophage mRNA

Abstract

The region of R17 RNA protected from RNase digestion by coat protein assumes a stable, predictable secondary structure. It seems that this structure is recognised by the protein when functioning as a translational srepressor.
