Abstract
THE response of a single visual cell of an insect, intracellularly recorded1–3, to polarised light (PL) is relatively small but, as is generally known, insects display a great capability of orientating to polarised light. Here I suggest that this contradiction can be explained with the aid of a filter mechanism.
