Abstract
SOIL fungistasis is the term applied to the widespread inhibition of the germination of fungal propagules in soil under apparently favourable conditions unless supplied with exogenous nutrient1. No satisfactory explanation has been given for this phenomenon although a number of hypotheses have been proposed2.
