Malarial Parasites in Mammalian Platelets

Abstract

IT is generally accepted that mammalian plasmodia undergo their schizogonic cycle in red cells and hepatocytes. With the exception of macrophages, which often engulf parasitized red cells, and granulocytes, which rarely phagocytize parasitic debris, other cells of blood and bone marrow do not carry plasmodia.
