Three-Dimensional Imaging of Ultrasound: Direct Ultrasonic Visualization of Defects

Abstract

WHEN a pair of identical converging optical lenses are assembled coaxially with their foci coincident, a three-dimensional object field produces a three-dimensional real image field of the same shape. The field boundaries in the longitudinal direction are determined by the focal length but in the transverse directions the limits are set only by aberrations and vignetting.
