Excitable Membranes

Abstract

A fluid mosaic model for membrane structure well accommodates the ideas about the mechanism of excitability which arose from the electrophysiological experiments of Hodgkin and Huxley. Recent experiments have been aimed at clarifying the molecular basis for this mechanism.
