Biological Sciences: Ribosomal Proteins: Variation of the Protein Composition in Escherichia coli Ribosomes as Function of Growth Rate

Abstract

PURIFIED 30S Escherichia coli ribosomal subunits are heterogenous in vitro1,2 both structurally and functionally, but there has been no experimental evidence of a corresponding heterogeneity in vivo. To test this possibility we studied the protein composition of ribosomes synthesized by bacteria under different growth conditions.
