Abstract
PURIFIED 30S Escherichia coli ribosomal subunits are heterogenous in vitro1,2 both structurally and functionally, but there has been no experimental evidence of a corresponding heterogeneity in vivo. To test this possibility we studied the protein composition of ribosomes synthesized by bacteria under different growth conditions.
