Necessity for Restudying Nucleic Acid and Protein Synthesis in Mammalian Semen

Abstract

IT is generally accepted that mature spermatozoa cannot synthesize nucleic acids1. The only enzyme involved in nucleic acid synthesis which has been identified in semen is polynucleotide phosphorylase2, but this finding remains unconfirmed, and it has been suggested that the apparent enzyme activity resulted from interactions of other enzymes not involved in nucleic acid synthesis3.
