Early DNA Replication Patterns of the Normal Sex Chromosomes and a Presumptive X-autosome Translocation in Cattle (Bos taurus L.)

Abstract

THE late DNA replication pattern of one sex chromosome in mammals is well known from studies of various species, including cattle1–3. The replication pattern of structurally rearranged sex chromosomes has also been described for several species. In most cases the postulated random inactivation of the X in the single female seems to be disturbed. This is the case with several X chromosome rearrangements in man4, Searle's translocation in the mouse5 and a presumptive X-autosome translocation in cattle3. I have investigated the early DNA replication pattern of the normal sex chromosomes in cattle and the presumptive X-autosome translocation.
