Inhibition of Viral Multiplication by Chemically Methylated DNA from the Host Cells

Abstract

THE addition to cell cultures of heterologous ribonucleic acids which have secondary structure induces the biosynthesis of interferon1–3. An analogous response is produced by double stranded synthetic polyribonucleotides4–8. We have shown that the addition to the cell culture medium of chemically modified heterologous or homologous RNA produces resistance to viral infection8–11.
