Inhibitory Effect of a Synthetic Interferon Inducer on Murine Sarcoma and Leukaemia Virus Infection in vitro

Abstract

SYNTHETIC polyribonucleotide complexes stimulate the synthesis of host interferon in vivo and in vitro1–4. The protective effect of polyinosinic.polycytidylic RNA (poly I.poly C) on virus infection in vivo and in vitro has been described (refs. 1–5 and personal communication from N. B. Finter). Poly I.poly C was reported to suppress the growth of transplantable murine tumours of known or unknown viral aetiology6,7. We have recently described the inhibitory effect of poly I.poly C on the induction of sarcomas in newborn mice by the murine sarcoma virus (MSV)2,3.
