Relation between Collagen Synthesis and Collagen Proline Hydroxylase Activity in Mammalian Cells

Abstract

DURING collagen synthesis in mammalian cells a polypeptide precursor (protocollagen) is formed on polyribosomes. Nearly half the proline residues in protocollagen are then hydroxylated by a specific enzyme (collagen proline hydroxylase, protocollagen proline hydroxylase) to give collagen1,2.
