Abstract
Partial defoliation leads to increased photosynthetic rates and increased levels of carboxylating enzymes, suggesting that in normal field conditions photosynthetic rates are limited by the levels of carboxylating enzymes and not only by physical resistance to carbon dioxide diffusion in the leaf.
