Tests of T and TCP Invariance in K0 Decay

Abstract

THE observed CP non-invariance in K0→2π and K20→πlν decays1 is usually presumed, on the basis of the TCP theorem2, to be associated with T non-invariant interactions. All experimental searches for specifically T non-invariant phenomena have so far yielded negative results, however3. Moreover, theoretical situations have been considered where the TCP theorem would not necessarily apply4. It is therefore interesting to examine the question of T invariance independently of the hypothesis of TCP invariance; at the same time, one would like to test the validity of TCP invariance. As the only known CP non-invariance occurs in K0 decays, I shall discuss tests based on neutral kaon decay rates.
