Abstract
THE neuromuscular physiology of giant muscle fibres from the barnacle has been described in some detail by Hoyle and Smyth1. Single striated muscle fibres up to about 2 mm in diameter have been found. Such fibres have cross-striations similar to those of vertebrate skeletal muscle cells and maintain an internal electrical negativity of from −74 to −80 mV.
