Abstract
THE aggregation of blood platelets by adenosine diphosphate (ADP) has been amply demonstrated in vitro1 and in vivo2, but so far as we are aware there have been no reports on the in vivo effects of ADP or related compounds on platelet adhesiveness measured in vitro. Because ADP clumps platelets in vitro and produces thrombocytopenia and microthrombi in vivo it might be expected to increase adhesiveness, but in the experiments reported here it, and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), actually reduced adhesiveness.
