Variation in Concentration and Composition of Toxic Alkaloids among Strains of Phalaris tuberosa L.

Abstract

IN recent years there has been an increasing number of deaths in flocks of sheep which have grazed pastures dominated by the Australian commercial strain of phalaris (Phalaris tuberosa L.)1. There were many cases of acute phalaris poisoning on the tablelands of New South Wales in 1965. In some flocks losses were as high as 20 per cent.
