Inhibitory Effect of Salicylates and Cinchophen Derivatives on Amino-acid Incorporation

Abstract

CINCHOPHEN is an ulcerogenic drug which depresses gastroduodenal mucus formation1. Salicylic acid also causes alimentary bleeding. It is possible that failure to secrete mucus for protection against peptic digestion of the gastroduodenal wall, in addition to chemical changes in the wall structure, is the ultimate cause of bleeding. We have therefore undertaken to investigate the effects of cinchophen, salicylic acid and their derivatives on protein synthesis.
