Rare Earth Abundances in an Anorthosite and a Mangerite

Abstract

THE association of anorthosite and mangerite in Pre-Cambrian areas is well known. There is, however, considerable controversy concerning the consanguinity of these rock types and the problem has been reviewed recently by Philpotts1. We are at present carrying out investigations of the abundances of rare earths in anorthosite associations because we think trace element variations might be particularly illuminating. This preliminary communication reports determinations of these elements in an anorthosite from Tchitogama Lake, Quebec, and in a quartz–mangerite1 from Grenville Township, Quebec.
