Abstract
D-GLUCARIC acid, the naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid analogue of D-glucose, can be utilized as the sole source of carbon and energy by many Enterobacteria1 and Pseudomonads2. Blumenthal and Fish1 found that the induced catabolic pathway shown in Scheme 1 operated in all the Enterobacteria which they investigated (see Table 1).
