Neurosecretion and Granules in Neurones of the Brain of the Leech

Abstract

EXAMINATION of established neurosecretory strucfores with the electron microscope reveals characteristic cytoplasmic structures: the elementary neurosecretory granules. These granules are usually electron-dense and range in diameter from about 1000 Å. to about 3000 Å. Mean granule diameters differ from cell to cell in the same and in different species; but the fully formed granules are of relatively constant size for each cell type.
