Demethylation in the Metabolism of (—)-Nicotine in vivo

Abstract

THE physiological disposition of nicotine randomly labelled with carbon-14 has been subjected to investigation by many authors1–3. After intravenous administration to mice1 and to dogs2 analyses of the expired air showed no radioactive carbon dioxide. In an extension of this work, in which degradation of nicotine was investigated, the methylamine fraction of dog urine was examined for radioactivity and found3 to contain none.
