Abstract
VERY little work has been done on the cytology of the wild mushroom Agaricus campestris Fr. var. tetrasporus. Most investigations have been confined to-cultivated mushrooms (reviewed by Evans1,2). The cytology of the wild form is also of considerable interest since such information may contribute to our understanding of why it has not been possible to cross the wild with the cultivated form in attempts at introducing commercially desirable characters, such as an improved flavour.
