Abstract
THE role of complement (C′) in allergy1,2, anaphyl-axis3,4, and the possible role of antigen–antibody reactions, and thus also of C′5 in rheumatism and general fever phenomena, induced us to determine whether classical antidotes against these diseases, like aspirin (acetyl-salicylic acid)6, salicylic acid, quinine and cortisone, have any anticomplementary action.

Work on more or less related compounds by Mills, S. E., and Levine, L., Immunology, 2, 368 (1959), has recently come to our notice; in the light of this work a reversible inhibition of C3′ appears more likely.
