Abstract
VASCULARIZED transplants are permanently successful only between identical twins or within a highly inbred strain. Even homografts from the mother to her litter are destroyed by the immunological process initiated by her transplant antigens1. However, tolerance for individual specific transplant antigens can be produced by the direct injection of donor cells into the fœtal or neo-natal animal1. These offspring accept grafts of normal tissue from the antigen donor. In contrast, uninjected control animals reject similar homologous transplants.
