Abstract
THE rheological properties of suspensions, which are used in coal preparation by dense-medium washing, are being studied. Initially, suspensions of barytes prepared by ball milling and containing particles of all sizes less than 250µ, and in most cases less than 100µ, were investigated. The effects of the concentration of solids and of the particle size of the solids on the consistency curve have been studied. It is hoped to extend the work to more complex systems containing three solid components (barytes, coal and shale) each or all of which may be deficient in smaller-sized particles. The present communication is intended to direct attention to some interesting features of the results obtained.
