Low-Angle X-Ray Scattering by Glasses

Abstract

THERE have been reports on the discovery of low-angle X-ray scattering by glasses, and evidence has also been presented to the contrary1–4. In trying to produce low-angle X-ray scattering by various types of glasses it became apparent to us that spurious effects might arise when using powder samples, owing to the surface scattering by the grains of the ground glass. This consideration also made us doubt the results of Hoffman and Statton3.
