Abstract
IN the course of studies on rice respiration1 we observed certain phenomena which point to the possibility of adaptive enzyme formation in higher plants. In order to establish conclusively the ability of a higher plant (rice seedling) to form adaptive enzymes, the present experiments were performed on the adaptive formation of nitrate reductase in rice seedlings.
