Monomeric Ferric Laurate in Toluene

Abstract

METAL soaps occur as two distinct types of aggregate in non-polar solvents. The majority of mono- and di-valent soaps form large complexes held together by dipole association1. The trivalent aluminium compounds which are obtained as the basic mono- or di-soaps appear, on the other hand, to have a polymeric structure joined by metal–oxygen co-ordinate links2 or by hydrogen bonds3. Solutions of the aluminium soaps exhibit characteristic visco-elastic phenomena and are believed to contain large fibrous aggregates.
