Abstract
IN connexion with some anatomical investigations now in progress, an occasion has arisen for reviewing the evidence for a possible affinity between the Ranales and the monocotyledons. A critical consideration of certain floral features reveals that a number of phenomena on which considerable stress has been placed are not, in fact, independent results, but may be deduced as geometrically inevitable consequences of the nature of imbricate æstivation.
