Abstract
DURING the course of an investigation of the Sagitta population in a portion of the Irish Sea, it became desirable to sample the waters over a large area. An attempt was made to devise a tow-net which could be used on coasting boats, the speed of which is approximately eight knots. An instrument was designed (Fig. 1) on a similar principle to Hardy's model1 but with several modifications. It consists of a diving fin to which is attached the plankton collector with an internal conical silk net.
