Abstract
EXPERIMENTS interpreted as evidence for the dis integration of the neutron have been described by Kikuchi, Aoki and Husimi, and the probability of the reaction has been calculated by them in terms of a collision cross-section varying from about 10˜24 to about 1G-25 sq. cm. C. W. Gilbert, C. L. Smith and J. H. Fremlin, by two different types of experiment, fail to confirm the disintegration of the neutron by bombardment with heavy hydrogen nuclei (deu-terons). They consider that the cross-section for the disintegration of the neutron, if it takes place, is less than 3 X lCh26 sq. cm.
