IMPORTANT questions relating to the antiquity of ‘fossil’ man in North Africa and to the dating and cultural affinities of the later stone age civilization of North Africa and the Sahara are debated by M. R. Vaufrey, of the Institut de Paleontologie humaine, Paris, in two recently published papers.
