Abstract
THERE appears to be a rassther interesting reversal in the direction of our minds between cause and effect in regard to some of the problems involved in relativity. The Michelson-Morley experiment was originally intended to detect the absolute movement of the earth through space; and it failed because the anticipated shift of the interference bands did not occur; and because it failed the movement through space remained undetected; and various physical theories were suggested to account for the failure.
