Dr TD Gilmore

Dr Thomas D Gilmore received his PhD degree in 1984 from the Zoology Department at the University of California, Berkeley, California. From 1984 to 1987, Dr Gilmore performed postdoctoral research with the late Dr Howard M Temin at the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research of the University of Wisconsin. He joined the faculty of the Biology Department at the Charles River Campus of Boston University in 1987 and is currently a Professor of Biology. Research in Dr Gilmore's laboratory has primarily focused on the role of NF-κB proteins in lymphoma, especially the mechanisms by which Rel oncoproteins malignantly transform and immortalize chicken lymphoid cells as a model for human B-cell lymphoma. However, the studies in his laboratory have also contributed to our understanding of the role of Rel proteins in oncogenesis, the control of apoptosis, transcriptional activation, as well as identifying important functional domains within Rel and IκB proteins. Dr Gilmore has written many reviews in this research area and has taught several graduate and undergraduate courses.
