Abstract
IN the past our laboratories have had to be content with the comparatively weak magnetic fields provided by the ordinary electro-magnets and the voltsges supplied by simple electrostatic machines and induction coils. In order to push further our investigations in many directions, much stronger magnetic fields and higher voltages are required in the laboratory. Scientific men thus naturally follow with great interest advances in these directions, whether undertaken for purely scientific or for technical uses.
