Dr Richard Jove obtained the PhD in 1984 from Columbia University, New York, where he studied gene regulation in DNA tumor viruses, particularly SV40 and adenoviruses. As a postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University in New York, he investigated signal transduction by oncoproteins encoded in RNA tumor viruses, with special emphasis on the Src tyrosine kinase of Rous sarcoma virus. In 1988, he moved to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he continued his research on oncogenic signaling pathways and became a tenured associate professor in the medical school. Since 1995, Dr Jove has been professor and director of the molecular oncology program at the H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, located on the University of South Florida College of Medicine campus in Tampa, Florida. Dr Jove's main research interest is to understand how oncoproteins subvert normal cellular signaling pathways and genetic programs during malignant transformation. His laboratory has been at the forefront of studies on the roles of aberrant STAT signaling in oncogenesis.
